    hello all,

i want to get a new hard drive as my 2 ide ones are getting full, but as my motherboard suports sata i was going to go with one of them.

so off i go to look on ebay for one, but most of them seam to be sata2 and i am not sure if my motherboard suports it. on the manufactures website it says the following ....

motherboard is a asus K8N-E Deluxe

    Sorage/RAID

    Chipset:
    ‧2 x UltraDMA 133/100/66/33
    ‧2 x Serial ATA, support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, JBOD
Silicon Image Sil 3114 SATA controller:
    ‧4 x Serial ATA
    ‧RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, RAID 5, JBOD

so basicly can i buy a sata2 hardrive? or do i have to stick to sata?????

thanks for your help i know u wont let me down!!!!!:)

i have been doing some research and i was just wondering if i would be corect in saying that sata 2 is just a faster version theirfore i can just change the speed using jumpers?????

SATA 2 HDD is backwards Compatitable. ( buy it :) )
If your mobo only supports SATA 1, no problem an SATA 2 HDD will still work it will just run at SATA 1 speeds.

Depending on the brand it may have a jumper to set it to SATA1 or 2 speeds
