    check this spec out:
    AMD 3000 64bit on a ASUS k8S - MX board, 512 MB RAM single chip, DVD/CDRW, floppy drive, 6600 nVidia 256MB AGP, SoundBlaster 5.1, 2 120GB Seagate SATA HDD.

    1st question:
is a 400 Watt power supply box sufficient?
    2nd:
the second SATA drive keeps going bad - OS can see it and open it but if i try to load some data or create a mirror raid.... lock up.
had the second one replaced thnx to the 5 year warranty but in less than 2 months, its happening again.
now i get a squelchy noise intermittently and XP takes a whole lot longer to load. took the second drive out and everything loads great.

i know seagate is not a bad company but what gives here? cant be a hdd goin bad this fast. i keep the cabinet open as heat is a worry and i keep the primary drive in the bay and the second one lying on the base of the system. no place or too tight a place for both to be placed together and again, the heat worry.
the tower i use is the same size as a Dell Dimension 3000 but no clips to hold stuff, just old screws so the second drive is kept safely at the base and all measures taken to keep it from vibrations and stuff.

any suggestions as getting worried that the next replacement may go the same route in a month.

400 W PSU that depends, How much juice on the 12V rails? Should have maybe total of 34A min on the 12v rails.
My Antec true 480 has 18A on each rail, two 12v rails totaling 36 Amp.
Generic 400w PSU never! PSU is no place to skimp, better to have extra juice.

HDD's? maybe you PSU is Killing em, LOL, I dont Know.
What's the temps they running at? Heat can kill a HDD.
I never much liked Seagate, all Ive had were noisey.

specs all add up to about 38A. gonna have to have them retested though. have not been able to get e reading on the temp of the drives but when both were running to back up the system, was pretty hot to even touch the mounting and that was only one time the second fellow worked.
most units around here go only with a 350W PSUs and a 400W is a question. had to really look hard for mine. comes from Zebronics @ www.zebronics.net
this only certified PSU that come over the sad 300W limit.
the mobo has 2 SATA connectors, 2 IDE connector ports. with current setup, the graphics card too is connected to the PSU for its fan and has no more power connectors. am i running it close on the limit and shld i look at a 500W PSU as long term solution?
