Hey, I was just looking at buying myself a new sata harddrive from the internet when I was just thinking "Are SATA hard drives any harder to set up than IDE?" If so, how exactly do you have to do it? The reason I'm asking also is that my friend tried to install one and had no luck so im curious oh what may of gone wrong for him

It is harder than an IDE drive installation.

Will you be installing an OS on it?

It also depend how are old is your motherboard if recent it should no problem but if it's pretty old it can' be difficult if brand new install you sould have the disquette ready when windows will ask you for sata drivers pressing F6 i think...

Beside that you should be okay....

I have install a brand new SATA2 drivers recently and i had no problem
but my boards is realy recent intel 945GNT latest bios.....

Yes thats where my friend got stuck, his motherboard didn't come with a disk with SATA drivers on, he's also looked at the motherboard manufatures website and the drivers they supply didn't work :(

If you have a CD that came with your motherboard, have a look for some SATA drivers on there.

Look at the hard drive manufacturers site for the necessary SATA drivers, and that should help. If the motherboard doesn't natively support SATA, then the drives manufacturer SATA drivers will be necessary.:)

Ive looked on both the CD and the Manufactures website and none of the drivers have worked for my friends SATA2 HDD :( I think he may swap it from the complany he bought it from for an IDE one.

Luckily my motherboard has come with a SATA disk so you guys have already answered my question, Thanks ;)
