Excuse my ignorance, but I haven't kept up with things and am building a new system. Will I experience any problems if I use an IDE/ATA drive as a boot/OS disk, along with an SATA drive, as my larger data and active file disk.
My general 'M.O." is to use a small OS disk (C:\) and a much larger data disk (D:\) for my active files. To me, it's always been a very safe scenario. Of course, when IDE/ATA were all we had, it was fine.
    thx

You should be fine that way.
When you load your OS on that smaller HDD, disconnect the SATA after the OS is installed then reconnect your SATA.

I would install my OS on the fastest HDD in my system, you could always use Multiple partitions if your fastest HDD was your SATA.
A HDD can have up to 4 primary partitions.

Just a smaller addition. Depends on what kind of motherboard. I've purchased a couple of not so well known manufacturers with sata and ide, with those I was able to use EITHER sata or ide. not a combo of both. Goes to show you that stick with the well known brands.

jonroq, I have an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MB and I have a small "C" drive on IDE and a large "D" drive on SATA. Works perfectly. Never had a problem with it. Just need to be sure you enable SATA in the BIOS.
