I have XP Pro installed on my SATA disk and all was well until my motherboard (the Epox) died the other day. Without wishing to be without my machine and all of the stuff I need on the drive, I bought a cheapo replacement m/b to act as a temporary replacment. That was an Asus A7V600-X.
Unfortunately XP does not boot because the Epox used the Silicon Image 3112 drivers and the Asus has the inbuilt VIA controller. How do I get the VIA drivers onto the SATA disk so that XP will boot successfully? I can enter recovery mode but what files do I need to move/modify? Is there any other way to do it other than manually? I have trawled through many support sites but never seen anyone post this particular SATA problem before.
I could try a clean install but it would probably take me 2 weeks to get it back to its current state.

System was: Epox 8RDA3+, 1GB OCZ RAM, AMD 3200+, Sapphire 9600XT video, 2 x 160GB HGST SATA drives (neither of which I want to trash), TAGAN 480W PSU

    Reinstall windows.

Major Hardware change such as MOBO replacement requires windows reinstall.
Besides SATA drivers those boards have other differances, chipsets, controllers, etc, which will cause problems.

You maybe be able to do repair install.

or buy the same exact MOBO that ya had before.
