robertbiferi I can't follow the rules

I have win xp pro and an ECS Motherboard and 3. SATA2. hard drives.

When I installed win xp pro I forgot that it does not support SATA2.. hard drives by Default.

So my ECS Motherboard in the BIOS set then all up under this way
    SATA Drive Configureation iDE

So my Motherboard still is useing them but as iDE and giveing me iDE speeds.

So I called the ECS compony and they told me that Win 7. supports SATA drives by Default and you don't have to install any SATA drivers.

Now I told them I want to get SATA 2. tranfer speeds out of all my SATA 2. hard drives.

And they told me just set the SATA Configureation seting to RAiD not iDE.

Now I told them I don't want to put all my drive into any kind of RAID I want to use every SATA 2. hard drive as a stand alone drive.

So when I copy a file from one drive to the other I will get SATA 2. transfer speeds.

So they told me to set up the SATA Configureation to AHCi.

So I just want to ask you before I do any of this if it is OK if AHCi is to get SATA sTransfer speeds without going into a RAiD?

Win XP does not support AHCI controller. You would have to install AHCI controller driver while installing Win XP from floppy drive (for example)

If your question was for windows 7 that you could set your SATA controller for ACHI, then yes this is correct. Windows 7 has the driver, windows XP does not and would have to be downloaded from the motherboard company.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 support AHCI controller....no matter of edition (to the best of my knowledge)

OK my Motherboard has 3. settings under SATA Configureation.

    iDE
    RAiD
    AHCi

If I select iDE all my SATA 2. hard drives will work but they will be used at iDE speeds so I don't want that one.

If I select RAiD all my SATA 2. hard drives must be setup in some kind of RAiD and I don't want that I want to use all my SATA hard drive Independently so I don't want the RAiD setting.

So if I want to my SATA 2. hard drives to work Independently and still get SATA 2. transfer speeds for when I copy files fom one hard drive to another I sould pick AHCi am I right??

    And one more thing.

My Hard Drives are all the same specs

    SATA2.
    7200 RPM
    16 MB Cash.

Do I have this right about Hard Drives?

When Data goes from the Motherboard to the Hard Drive it goes to the Externale Cash first?

Then from the Externale Cash it goes to the Internale Cash then to the Platters?

Well I ask because my Drive specs are.

    7200 RPM.
    16 MB Cash Size.

It does not tell you if this is the Externale cash size or Internale cash size????
