no, unless this has changed, satellite requires you to dialup to a host for uplink and your sat will be downlink. FCC regulates that you cannot upload to a satellite. Stay with cable.

Not to mention, last time I looked into satellite for a man outside of an area served by cable/dsl it had some pretty steep access charges. It also limited the monthly usage to a certain number of hours, and had steep per-hour access charges after you used that allotment. Cable seems to be the best bang for the buck, depending on provider. DSL depending on the package can have better upstream rates, if you are doing alot of sending rather than recieving of information.

Yep, I have DirecWay since we are out in the country. (can't get cable or DSL) If you can get Cable/DSL, go with that. Satellite isn't bad, download speeds are good. Upload speed isn't bad. But, the ping is awful. Web pages load slower because it takes more time for the information to travel to and from the satellite. And gaming is completely out of the question. All I can say is it is better than dial-up. I hope we get cable sometime soon....

P.S. Njal, it costs about the same as cable service. And you do get an unlimited number of hours.

Glad you poste Wyatt. I hit upon DirecWay earlier today in my quest for knowlege. Found it interesting that the FCC has changed that regulation. I find it a good thing. It's also good to hear from a user of the service for a frame of reference.

I think I just read artical in PC world mag.
About wireless/satilite? network, construction has already began building towers in US, network of towers will take couple or few years to complete.
If remember rite completion around 2007, speeds to be like 5 times faster than cable, cost supposed to be much less than cable.

I'll have to find artical and read again, my memory (brain memory) no so good all the time.

Currently there is Not one single advantage in Satellite over Cable (The name Satellite sound more Romantic than Cable but that about it).

Bedside the draw backs that was mentioned before Satellite is more trouble in organizing the Internal Network (LAN) it is less compatible with Entry Level Hardware the is widely available.

In addition in Bad Whether Satellite takes a Hike. I.e. No connection or spotty connection.
