Save the Sims!

So...my girlfriend needs her PC wiped and windows reinstalled. Here's the catch: She's a Sims freak! She won't let me touch it unitl I'm certain I can save all of her Sims stuff and put it back on after I wipe and install.

I've gone to the Sims Exchange site, and it makes no sense, so I'm wondering if I can just copy all of her files onto my external and then just put them back when I'm done. Seems too easy...:confused

 

Is she playing The Sims, or is she playing one of the older games? If so, the characters might be saved serverside. Try digging down into the Program Files folder and looking around for something called characters, or a readme which'll probably tell you where the characters/saved games are.

 

I'm fairly certain she's playing the newer ones. The Sims and The Sims 2. I've saved her entire EA file. I hope that works!

 

I tried this and came across some issues however I immediately noticed a huge mistake. Most of the userdata is saved in My Documents/EAGAMES/Sims 2. I only copied files from the C:/Programfiles/EAGAMES/Sims2 which is only actual game data. All of the houses, families, etc. are located in the My Documents location. I can't assure that it will work with that, but I can guarantee it won't work without it.

 

well...as much as I appreciate the input....it's all over. I effed up, and The Sims are no longer. I copied the EA Games file to my external, and when I went to retrieve it...low and behold....only shortcuts left. I'm positive I copied the contents and not the shortcuts, but we are moving on. Hope I'm not looking for a new gf any time soon!
