My laptop says my wireless connection is excellent, and yet my browser and AIM seem to think I'm not connected.
I don't think the problem is with my wireless card because like I said, it is picking up signal, and when I plug my computer in with an ethernet cable it still doesn't work.

    Any ideas?

are you running any type of firewall on the laptop?

also you may want to make sure youre getting a propper IP address. go to a command prompt and type ipconfig/all. this will give you the report on your IP settings, depending on your router, you should have an IP that looks like 192.168.0.3 or something like that, if it starts with 169 instead of 192 then youre not getting a good IP and the problem may be in the router.
    Please provide more info.

i had a problem sort of like this except it wasn't with wireless...and i could just turn my modem off let the connection drop and then retry it.

Maybe an iprelease / iprenew would work?

i tried disconnecting and connecting again, nothing happened.

yes, i am running a firewall.

and this is really weird...when i typed in ipconfig a box pops up and disappears really fast. so i haven't a clue. maybe i should just take it somewhere.

sounds like it may be a couple of things. 1. sounds like your firewall may be restricting you access, try tunring the firewall off and see what happens. 2. as far as the box flashing this is because you are typing the ipconfig in the run box, you must do this from a command propmpt. in the run box type cmd, and then from that window you can do your ipconfig /all.

After you hit start/run, type in "cmd" without quotes, and then type ipconfig in the dos window.

First, make sure you're connected to your own network!!
Second, check your encryption settings. If you are connected to a wireless network that has encryption, and you don't enter the proper encryption key, this will happen!

Start from sratch. Reconfigure your wireless settings on your router, and use a new SSID. Delete any old wireless profiles on your PC, and connect to your network. First try it with no encryption, to assure that it's not the encryption. If it works, add encryption as necessary. Remember you must reconfigure your wireless profile settings on your PC after you do this.

    What OS are you running?
