Hello everyone. So today I upgraded my computer from xp to windows 7. The sound card I have worked fine with xp and supposedly should work fine with windows 7. I have installed the latest drivers for it, one from the Creative site and when that didnt work the one directly from microsoft update. My computer sees that it is there, identifies it and can see that it is installed but still comes up with a problem in the device manager. Any Ideas? here is the Everest Report.

    Hi

Did you do an inplace upgrade of XP to Windows 7 or a clean install of Windows 7? inplace upgrade from XP is not a supported route, sadly a clean install is what is needed as too many legacy files from XP can cause issues, downside is you need to install all your apps again and backup and/or use Easy Transfer to move docs and accounts over.

I would delete any drivers you already have installed for Audio from Add/remove and also check Device Manager, then run CCleaner to clean up any temp locations (Cleaner option) then run its registry cleaner intil no items are shown for removal.

Then reboot and install this driver HERE

Also check in Services that the Windows Audio service is Started and set to Automatic.

Ok so just fyi it was a complete install, fresh as you can get. When I started searching for drivers for things the driver you have listed was the first one i found. (even though the link you have here sends you to the page but the download link doesn't work) I dled the same .exe from another part of the site and procceeded to install the driver then. When it didn't work I researched a bit and found people had problems until they updated windows, so I updated windows and downloaded their oprional Creative drivers along with. These did not work either.

Following your instructions I removed all audio drivers from my registry so on and so forth and proceeded to install that driver again that you have listed. It goes through the install completely. Then asks to reboot to finish, when I reboot the device is still not "correctly installed" I would have given up and just reinstalled windows by now if it wasn't for the fact I would only be doing what you have said again after trying it the first time i looked for drivers for this card. If you have any other suggestions or questions I would be happy to hear them.

    Thanks,

    Hi

Just had a quick thought and come out of re-reading your everest log and its listing the onboard audio, so quick thought is enter your BIOS and disable (if not already) the onboard audio as it "may" be conflicting your your SB24
