All of a sudden, I have NO sound. I've checked out everything in system's device manager and all is ok. I've tried to roll back the driver and it can find nothing to roll back to!

Apparently, I have no driver now of any kind... how'd that get erased? When I try and check the "volume icon" to be placed in the tool tray, I get a message saying there's no driver to support volume control. What happend?

I've tried to get a driver update from creative but of course, it says, when I try and run it, that there's no driver to replace so it just exits.

    help.... anyone?

    Try this;
Check that Windows Audio Service is started.
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

Then go to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio and make sure that your SB is set as Default Playback Device in the Audio tab

Ok, I've tried all those ideas and still nothing...

when I try and use volume control, an error message come up saying that

"windows can't execute SndVol32.exe" and says to use the install/uninstall utility in the windows control panel... I don't find it.

I've gone to windows and followed their instructions for re-installing this from the XP home edition disk and it STILL won't let me complete the task?

If the driver is completely missing, you will have to reinstall it. Not update.
You can manually find it here:
    http://support.creative.com/Products/product_list.aspx?catID=1&CatName=Sound+Blaster

Or upload an Everest report and I will look for it.

    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

    Ok.... all is fine now.

It took a copy of XP Professional to make it work though. I don't know why. I followed those instructions from MS and it worked like a charm. I have NO idea why my original copy of XP HE did'nt/wouldn't work :confused

    anyhoo, thanks for the help!
