A company called Acadia Global is still trying to tell poeople that their pcs are getting infected and they can fix it for a price. It is a known scam dating back to at least 12/12.
Go to the FBI at www.ic3.gov and report it if it hapens to you. Do not give any money or information.

I had something like that but I got told I was sending out spam emails which originated from my email account and must be infected with a virus/Trojan and they can remove it for me but they wanted remote access to my computer and a fee for doing it.

Didn't fall for it at all.

Yes, that too is part of their bogus scam. The FBI is aware and encourages participation.

    Hi Peter

Always good advice and that many scammers try to foo PC users in this way, sadly they do hook the vulnerable and sadly there is nothing the PC community can do, we can advise as we do and warn, but do we get to all PC users? NO we do not which is why I think a duty of care should be on the OEM maker as they are the ones that sell the most PCs to the vulnerable! so a guide book or lesson should come with all OEM PCs.

You know, David, as I was going here and there typing out this caveat, I was thinking of how short range my message is.
You have an excellent idea as the OEM's do touch each pc and could really help. Theses vermin are really slick and do everything but crawl in the window.
My wife answered but I had no fear as she can hold her own a lot better than I could.
I must be getting paranoid because as I was typing a yellow banner came across my screen asking to take over my pc to which I declined.
