    This should help:

How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)

The second option, scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, takes much longer and generally is not needed.

Windows tip of the day: viewing your chkdsk report

Thank you for getting back to me and I just need help with 2. things?

I ran chkdsk on my C Drive and it tells you everything it is doing. And it says 62 Repaires Records Processes.

    Then under it is says
    0. Bad file Records.

I am lost if there was 0. Bad File Records then how can there be 62 Repaires?

    Hi

and like plodr's informative post above you needed to post the parts of the log file in context as 0 bad file records should have been in a line like this

the above just mean that they have been processed and at the bottom of the main first section it would stay if you had issues or not, if not then a line like this is evident

Majority of chkdsk is cleanup tools for orphaned files no longer needed, to Windows cleaning up its own junk, to the possible cleanup of errors if you hard shutdown your PC without using the normal route.

If you right-click the CHKDSK event in the Application Log of Event Viewer then choose Copy > Copy Details as text then open Notepad and paste the text in, then save that notepad file, then attach as per HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

We can have a look and let you know if there is anything bad to worry about, but unless you are having file issues and random crashes on your PC then its unlikely you need to run CHKDSK at all.

    Hi

I have never seen Repaire Records Processed before (just been re-reading some TechNet documents on chkdsk) so if you could be kind enough as I mentioned earler attach the log file for us to review as it would help us see whats going on if the word "repaire" is in the log.

But as the line 0 bad file records processed stated its likely you have no issues.

Well after the scan it restarted the system.
So does it put the Log File in a System folder or were do I check for it?
