WinME: Altho all I do is read mail & surf the net (no porn sites), seems like I have to run ScanDisk (always has errors that are fixed, but doesn't specify what they are) & Defrag about every other day! Is this normal? If not, any recommendations, please?
    Thanx

How many gigs is your hard drive and how much free space in gigs is avaialable?
If your hard drive is nearly full may explain why defrag is necessary so often.
I clean my system every day of crap and run Norton's speeddisk daily (same as defrag), even though I have plenty of free space available. Bazza

i heard that its not good to run defrag too often..any hard drive experts know about this?...you shouldnt need to run those programs everyday...

I've yet to see someone who defrags a lot run into problems.
I think that rumour runs along the same lines of formatting often is bad.

well, when i used my win 98 computer, you pretty much had to run scan disk, and defrag, to prevent errors before burning cd's (from what i was told, and read), so it basically became habit. on my windows me comp, i used to at least do it monthly, but i've slacked lately, and it also takes overnight running defrag (both drives), on my 60 byte (main), and 80 gbyte (secondary) hardrives. i don't know why your computer would find errors running scandisk all the time, i'd say that isn't normal. anyway, if you run defrag often, it shouldn't take that long to run, as opposed to not running it often (if you don't believe me, reboot, and run again). i think it's a matter of preference (yours)... - sos

You don't have to run them everyday, but if you do it will only take a short time (depends on how much data you have) and it fixes fragmented files by keeping them as contiguous as possible. As per previous post of mine, I run speeddisk nearly every day, for years now. Baz

I defrag two to three times a week with perfectdisk.
    I run scandisk twice monthly-unless I was doing a disk write/read and
had a hard lock (doesn't happen too often).
