Scandisk/XP?

I would like to run scandisk on XP....but i can't seem to find
it ....not under system tools...like ME...Maybe under system
info? But I haven't found it there either...did MS leave it out of
XP or am I being blinded by the simplicity?

Anyone know where it 'tis?

start...run.. type CMD

at the prompt type

CHKDSK

hit enter

 

Right click on your C: drive. Choose properties from the drop-down. In the properties window, click the "tools" tab. You'll find it there.
Once you select to check the drive for errors, you will be prompted to restart the machine. Scandisk will start itself on reboot. Be prepared, takes about 3 or 4 hours !!

I have a habit of running scandisk before the defrag...just to
make sure...but I'm still getting to know XP.....

And yes....MS can be verrry arbitrary....too bad ALL our brains
don't work like his....***$$$***

Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna incorportate that into my routine. Unless I'm running Linux of course, (I'm told that there is no defragging to do there).
