I bought a HP Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner to make copies of my picture films. However, it said I could make changes to documents once I loaded them to word but I haven't been able to do it. I mean, I can make changes to the letters but the screen is so screwed up and discombobulated I can't make out where the changes need to be made? When I called tech support I was told that a program called ReadIris will change all of that. So my question is, I don't want to have to buy a program to make changes to my documents especially after I've spent so much on this darn scanner. Is there another program or way I can make it work?

    Hi Misfit,

An OCR program used to come with all scanners. My Mustek came with Textbridge. It will scan and convert into any Editor that has Twain (Aquire) or convert any Graphic "Text" saved as XX.Tif or several other formats. You should be able to find one to down load. You should be searching for an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program.

    Good Luck, Jim

    Hi again Misfit,

Sorry, I didn't read your post very well. Sounds like the program needed did come with the scanner. Next question would be, "Did that program load when you loaded the Scanner drivers?" You need to find out the name of that program from the scanner manual and search for it on your Comp. The rest of my post would be correct. You should find Acquire in the File menu of most Graphics and Text editors. That's what allows you to scan directly into the Editor. You will not get a perfect document. If the original is not good you will have a lot of editing to do. If it's good you will have less editing to do. Hope this helps a little. If the program loaded, and I think you have already tried this, scanning into a Text Editor may automatically do the OCR conversions.

    Good Luck, Jim
