    Hi,
I am always reluctant to upgrade as I find issues with drivers & hardware, however the corporations have you by the short & curlies.
Have Canon scanner d660u, works fine upgrade to Win7 & the drivers that came with it are 32 bit & Win7 is 64 bit.
Anyone have an idea how to fix?
Have contacted Canon but no reply yet.
    Thanks in advance :cry

You can try to use Vuescan http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/canon_d660u.html
Follow the instructions on that page to install the program and use the programs drivers. Vuescan's Guide Me mode should be free and without watermarks, but I've read reports that if you just install the program with drivers you can use other scanning programs. I've bought the program personally because it just works with anything I throw at it. I'm currently using it on a Canon Canoscan FS4000US, which doesn't even have drivers for Vista much less my Win7-64 computer. I also have a Nikon Coolscan scanner as well as a flatbed HP scanner. I've even used the program on a Sharp photocopier. Like I said it just works with anything I throw at it.

    Hi again,
Vuescan works but not with transparency.
The price is way too high for what I need as well $39.00 & 79.00.
    Any generic drivers out there?
    Don:)

Hi Don, I didn't realize you're trying to scan transparency and Vuescan doesn't list that as a supported feature for that scanner. This likely won't work (because the website doesn't say you can scan transparencies with this software/hardware combo), but try downloading the 32 bit version of Vuescan and see if that works. http://www.hamrick.com/files/vuex3291.exe

Also, since the scanner is now talking to your computer go to Canon's website and download
ScanGear Toolbox FAU 2.5.1 for WIndows 98/2000/Me/XP
    and
ScanGear Toolbox 2.5.1 for WIndows 98/2000/Me/XP
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/suppo...scan_series/canoscan_d660u#DriversAndSoftware (select Windows XP as an Operating System, open the Software option) and see if you can get those installed. You'll likely need to install using Compatibility mode (right click the .exe installer file, click properties> Compatibilty tab. Check Run in compatibility mode and choose XP Service Pack 2, also run as admin.
I've never tried to install ScanGear and have no idea how difficult it would be.

You are wise not to buy the software if the trial doesn't do what you want to do. Buying the software won't make it work on a scanner that it didn't previously, so if this is a no go you'll want to look elsewhere.

The only alternative I can think of is to get an older computer with XP on it (or whatever OS that would work) and dedicate that scanner to that computer as a scanning station. But that's a lot of work just to get a 600 dpi scanner working.
