my daughter has a job helping an autistic kid over the summer. she needs to fill in assessment forms each evening. is there a way to scan the form and fill it out on the PC. every time i try to save it, the format changes. I think I've now tried every type of 'save as'. i have windows xp home, an HP psc 1210. i have downloaded a copy of office 2000. please tell me what to do. aloha laurie

Try scanning as a .pdf, then go here http://www.convertzone.com/ Once it's in word format open it and do a save as. Make it a template file and you should then be able to open copies.

It's a bit cumbersome I know but it should work:)

i have jokingly insinuated that my daughter is 'high maintenance'. she is....but she works hard and studies hard. her current job is physically, mentally and emotionally draining. when she gets home she is the required to document every activity and the progress or regression in all aspects of those activities. then that has to be put into 'professional' jargon. ie. 'he appeared embarrassed' would be written as 'his face flushed and he looked at the floor'. this is a pain in communication skills! it would be a whole lot easier to do this on a WP instead of writing and altering by hand. i am sure this is doable on the equipment i have. i am gonna ring hp today and ask them. ill let you know the results. aloha Laurie

Am trying to find a solution for you. Normally that's a good tool. Back in a bit, the guy I need to speak to has been AWOL for the last 5 days:) ;)

Ok, in the meantime try this http://www.eprintdriver.com/to_word/PDF_to_MS_Word.htmlIt's a 30 day trial and will allow 10 copies before it watermarks them. Just tried it and it seems to do what it says on the tin:)

BTW my partner works for Social Services so I know the pressures, Respect! to your daughter:)

ok. HP sez its the OCR. it cant read words like Time(start/finish): as it is printed as one word. they didn't offer any sollution except to alter the changed aspects and save again. in other words rewrite it! i will try your suggestion and http://www.simpleocr.com. meny thanks and much aloha.

just to catch you up, in the end i decided to edit the form. by the way one problem was that under 'setting' in the hp directer box there is an option to either have 'framed text' or 'flowed text'. it has to be set as 'framed'. (must have temporarily lost my psychic senses!) i now have a template she can work from. and some idea as too how to save the next one. thanx again for helping me explore aloha

I use the H.P. 2210, amonst other printers, which is the upmarket version of the 2110.

Readiris is a pretty good O.C.R. program, and is availible for fre trail d/l.

I do a fair bit of O.C.R. work, so let me know if you have any further problems. ;)

Well, the ReadI.R.I.S. Trial program came as part of the software bundle with the 2210. But I dunno if it does with the 2110 - 'prolly not, from memory.

It starts off by default with a wizard and is pretty easy to use, i.m.o.
