ScanRegistry,Help Plz

Hi another question for you good looking studs,before I upgraded
to XP Pro I had Windows Me and in the startups in misconfig there was a command ( ScanRegistry ) which would scan my Registry on boot up. Is there the same in XP Pro,I cannot find it,maybe its under a different name. Does XP Pro Automaticly do a Scan of the Registry on bootup or do I have to turn something on. Help plz.

No, no feature like that. XP as of Sp1 has the ability to recovery from registry failures, if they are minor and not fatal. IF.

Wehn booting to the recovery console, there is some minor registry structure scanning but nothing you would notice or have control over.

Why do you need this feature? Are you having problems?

 

No I don't need the feature,I thought it was a pretty good thing in Me. I'm just learning all I can about XP Pro but thank you very much for your help.

Marlene, when XP starts successfully it stores a copy of the system's hardware configuration and driver settings, which it takes from the registry.

If you ever can't boot up, then you can use this by selecting "Last Known Good Configuration".

It stores a certain number, then just overwrites the oldest one so you always have an up to date copy.

This is done automatically and there is nothing you have to do or set up.

To get to Last Known Good Configuration, you need to press F8 before Windows starts loading.


Keep in mind that if your problem lies after the Welcome or logon screen, then Last Known Good will not help you.
