    Truly, Tim.

It is beyond incomprehensible to me the mind that would go into an elementary school full of 5-10 yr olds and start shooting.

I am happy the shooter is dead...which also sickens me.

It's really hard to fathom such a tragedy, such a waste...

Those poor children - not only the dead and physically wounded, but the emotionally scarred young ones should not have had to go through such horror.

As a combat veteran I learned how to overcome my nightmares through therapy and introspection. As a father and a grandfather I am pretty much at a loss for words - how in the world would you explain something like this to a young loved one?

    Terrible...

I was saying the exact thing about those poor children who have to deal with this horror they survived. God, and those parents and families of the ones who were lost so young.

I really don't understand what's going on. When I was growing up, something like this rarely happened. Extremely rarely. Sure, we might have a Texas bell tower or a presidential assassination every once in a while, but a school? With young kids? Never...

    The world's going to shit.

Pardon my French - I'm sorry. I'm just disgusted with the human race right now.

At the risk of sounding unsympathetic, I think the media is making a big mistake spending huge amounts of airtime covering events like this.

While it's legitimate and sad news, the nutcase who did this is becoming enshrined in a sick way just like the "Dark Knight" killer and the Columbine killers. Although this is a tragic event for normal people, I question if coverage like this feeds other people who are on the edge (remember: today's killing came only a few days after the mall shooting in Portland).

You don't sound unsympathetic at all. Asking that the media restrain their appetite so as not to feed other sick/evil individuals is a good thing. That they would heed your advice, we can only hope...

We have shootings on this side of the Atlantic as well but nothing on the scale and horror of this.
This guy was mentally deranged but was able to get his hands on 3 weapons and commit carnage.
The family's of those killed and injured and also those children who witnessed this act of mindless violence have a cross to bear that we can not imagine.
Like caliban i am a combat vet and can not get my head around the motive for this atrocity as children and teachers pose no threat to anyone.
From what we are reading in the press over here he killed his mother first who was also a teacher.
No amount of sympathy can help a mother who has lost a child but they are all in my prayers.

This should be the wake-up call, to end all wake-up calls.

The firearms industry, the NRA, and their lobbyists have incited such fear in the populace regarding the Second Amendment it has been impossible to implement effective gun control. Freedom without rule of law, and regulation is Anarchy. I'm not saying outlaw guns, but we can do far better determining who should be able to own, or simply possess one. Over ten thousand people died last year in this country due to gun violence. That makes us #1 in the world. Not exactly the greatest number one statistic to be proud of.

    We can do better.

This tragedy is appalling. As a father I can't begin to comprehend my shock level if one of the children in this sickening act was one of mine.
Other people here have commented on the horror for the survivors and also combat hardened members have said how tough it is to get over coming back from war but this surely would be worse because those killed were unarmed teachers and very young innocent children with no reason to be killed.
What a senseless atrocity. It goes way beyond my comprehension. I can't even rationalise the killer's thought process and how he would reach the decision to go to a primary school and start killing the pupils and teachers.
The only solace for the parents and survivors is knowing the gunman killed himself so he can't ever do it again.
I feel really sad that these senseless massacres are becoming more commonplace. Eventually society will become hardened to these acts so to gain the same notoriety the shooters will have to outdo previous atrocities... like a sick competition

    What a sad day indeed:(

My blood pressure has just gone through the roof:mad
How anyone can make such a crass comment to say arming teachers could have prevented this tragic event.
Police and military need weapons to do their job but a teacher under normal circumstances work in a passive environment, plus the message that seeing armed teachers would send to the pupils is terrible.

This thread was intended to express sympathy and horror at the events in the school and i am feeling real pain for those parents who lost their children in this massacre.

The post was intended to be rude but i will not be drawn into an argument over gun control with you.
A little compassion is a great healer.

This is my last post here.

I have 2 websites. Majorgeeks and Pedaltothemetal. Neither covered the story because it isn't our business. You can go almost anywhere and argue this further. Have fun wherever that is.
