    Hi funky

Try this free one http://www.majorgeeks.com/CamStudio_d4646.html saves in .AVI format so will open in most apps and players. Just takes a little playing with the app to get used to how it works, but is very light of resources and works good, i have used this to do some small videos to show bugs in software and recreation steps.

I've downloaded it twice but the recorder .exe won't open it says there is a missing file.

Did it state what the missing file was?

    Which OS?

I am an old hand at computers and software since the DBD. Days before Dos.

And so I like my programs to
    1. work well
    2. be small
    3. not be hard to learn

The one program I've found which fits this is called
    Clipper.

The few key things I like are these.

    1. You can save to any file format. Select GIF for the smallest file size versus
best quality unless you're saving good quality photos. But you're not it
    sounds like so pick GIF.

    2. You can, by setting the period of the time under automation, make an
animated gif which changes images every 1 or 2 or 4 or 10 seconds. This
will show people what you are doing in a kind of moving image. I've done it
    and it's very effective.

2a. You must make a storyboard on your own so you know when to clipper
the image on the screen otherwise your final result won't make much sense.

Perhaps the staement above is the limitation and you'd be better served by
another method. In that case I would suggest the other thing I've done.

I use an inexpensive video camera that makes ASF files and simply record
the screen with the camera. The camera I use is the DV3500 from Mustek.
The quality is about 1mb / min and good enought to read text on the
screen. It records to SD card and easily uploads to anyone .

There are 2 choices. I have not explained all that Clipper can do but
only mentioned the thing you wanted. It is an excellant program for
this one reason here for anyone:

Clipper your screen as you find things you like.. later use ACDSEE or
any other program which allows you to quickly jump from image to
image. You'll quickly find and remember things that you liked to remember.

I use it extensively to find coupons, email addresses, or other things that
are not so important to write down but which I want a record of for later.

Shipping or buying records is one use.
Ideas for art or projects is another use.

If you shop a lot it's absolutely necessary so as to compare what you're
looking at over a few day period.

    Good luck
