Screen cuts off

hi in the past few days my screen has been cutting off it goes black the comes up saying no signal but the pc is still running and if im playing a game i can still hear it then i have to restart the pc does anyone have any clues on what is happening

Did you check your power settings in windows?
Also does your monitor come back on when you press a button on your keyboard or move your mouse?

 

no it does nothing when i move the mouse or press keys and i know its not going into sleep more or anything like that, i have checked all the cables . i have a radion x700 AGP 256 mb gfx card

 

Laptop? Desktop?

Any additional video ports?

 

its a desk top and i dont know what video ports are but im guessing its like a 2nd agp slot and i only have one

 

It's possible the video card is damaged. Have you got another one laying around to test it with? Does your board have onboard video? If so try that.

 

Either the video card or the monitor I would think. I had an old "future power" monitor that "went to sleep" after about half an hour of use, I think that it was getting too hot. Anyways, if the video card swap dosen't work, try changing monitors too, best of luck.

 

Sometimes folks buy a better video card (additional) than is on the motherboard. If so, then the motherboard video port is available for you to plug your monitor into.

 

i think its a heat problem i had a feel of the card and it was quite hot and this was about 30 mins after it was on and i was only web browsing i think i need a new fan for it , its an ATi radion powercolour x700 256 mb. can someone recommend a cooler to get for it form the uk pls i had a look around and i cant find one that says its for that make of card

ive been looking most of today for a cooler and cat find one for sure that is for this card last year i had a radin 9600 card and the fan stopped completely and ib bought an arctic cooling fan for it but it was the pro version of it and it didnt fit i eventualy got the fan working again but it mad a racket so i bought this card in january of this year and now it seems as if i have a similar problem.
i was thinking of getting this cooler :

i have an ATi radion powercolour x700 256 mb will that cooler be compatible with that card? and if not could one of you awsome people find me a compatible one please

i have some new information on the problem : i left my pc on over night and when i went to go on it in the morning it had turned off the monitor so i restarted and when it came back on i had the window error thing come up asking me if i wanted to tell microsoft about the error it said it was a driver failure it said: " The drivers for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation please check with the manufacturer for a driver update. please tell microsoft about the instabillity." then i click on " to see what is in the error report click here."

it comes up with this : Error signature

szModName : ati2dvag.dll szModVer : 6.14.10.6601 Offset : 819C06EA

does this mean that all the problems i have is due to the driver and if i update it it will be fixed any info will be appreciated very very much

Go ahead and update the drivers you got nothing to lose in trying that.

 

i did do it and it still cuts off was playing bf2 for about 30 mins then it cuts off.
i think it is somthing to do with my gfx card fan it is spinning but the card is getting very warm. i think i need a new fan but i cant fid one that will fit the card

 

could someone please post a website where i could buy a new fan for my Ati radion Power colour x700 pls
