I have a Pavilion Laptop recently the screen flashes a white screen then back to normal view . Goes back & forth constantly about every 5-10 seconds. I run Windows 10. What is the problem & how do I fix it ? Out of warranty. I did try a restore but it failed to restore error. Product Number is N5P51UA. Also does it in Safe Mode. I have been searching the internet trying to find fixes only one seemed close to it was Upgrading Windows 10 but that didn't help as the Services to uncheck where not listed on my computer, I did upgrade to Windows 10 but had no trouble from it for months so I think that is not related. All the help is gratefully appreciated!

First thing I would do is attach an external monitor to the notebook and press the appropriate Fn + F-key combination to cycle between the notebook and external monitor and see is the problem happens on the external monitor too. If it does, the problem is with your notebook or its graphics solution - which is not good as that is usually the motherboard, and not normally cost effective to repair. If the external monitor does not flash, the problem is with your notebook's display and those often are worth repairing.

If you don't have an external monitor, most TVs support computer input.

Thanks for the help, I will try that & get back to you to narrow it down.

You could be wrong with that assumption. Do you have driver updates turned off? Windows 10 updates drivers. If the video driver was updated, that could be part of the problem.

Check the date of the video driver.

I don't run Windows 10 but there must be a way to roll back the driver. Before you rollback, turn off driver updates because if you don't, after you rollback, MS will just send the newer driver back to you.

Also, by default, Windows 10 doesn't create Restore Points (which might have rolled back your graphics driver). You have to set up System Restore in System Protection and turn it on.

Tried to hookup an external monitor but laptop has no VGA port only USB & HDMI ports. Also tried to update Video Intel driver downloaded it but won't "install Error: Not Verified". Got a HDMI/VGA Adapter cable coming to try to hookup external. Any other helpful troubleshooting techniques?

Try uninstalling video driver- right cick start-device manager- display adaptor-driver roll back driver.

FYI I hooked up an external Monitor thru the HDMI port with an adapter cable & the video is perfect no flashing . Does that mean the screen bad and/or cables only & not motherboard. What are any recommendations to do now?

    Thanks

It could still be the video cable, as the external connection is on another cable, or, offshoot from the video cable.
Try gently twisting the screen, gently, and if the picture holds- I had that before, and that turned out to be the screen- easy enough to change-plenty of videos on u-tube.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to a screen replacement video for my system? I have been searching & can't find any videos on my specific model HP Pavilion 17-G153US. I downloaded a manual on my Laptop & there showing removing bottom cover, hinges & so on. I did a Dell & it simply snapped off plastic Bezel & 4 screws . Gratefully Appreciated!
