Screen goes blank after XP loads

Sony VAIO laptop - XP Pro

When you turn the power on, XP loads normally. After about 30 seconds after the desktop fully loads, the screen just goes blank. The laptop is still on, but the screen turns off.

At first I though this to be a hardware problem, but the screen shuts off at exactly the same moment every time. It almost makes me think that perhaps it could be a virus or something.

When Windows loads, everything is fully functional for those thirty seconds. The mouse pointer works, the keyboard works, you can open programs, etc.

So what do you think? At first it seems hardware, but the way it happens precisely at the same point each time is weird.
