screen quirks...

Sometimes the graphics on my screen will fan like when you spread out a deck of cards. Why? Does anyone know?

 

The first thing to check would be the video drivers. Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager and look under Display Adapters. Make sure there's no yellow question marks ? or exclamation points ! anywhere. Then check your memory and running processes (press CTRL + ALT + DEL all at the same time to open the task manager). Click the Performance tab. I attached a screen shot below so you can see what to look at; the stuff in the red boxes is the most important. Also, your CPU usage history will show you if the usage is spiking which is a common cause of the 'fanning' that you're seeing. Another cause is a spike in memory usage. You should pretty much have at least 50% available in the 'Physical Memory' section. In the screen shot below, you'll see I have about two-thirds available. This will really depend on your PC specs. If you have an older system with 512mb of memory or less, and if you have a lot of apps running in the background at start up, you will be low on available resources for other tasks...

 

AND,open the panel side from your computer and see if graphic card is dirty.Overheating might be a problem.

 

dlb, may I ask what you do to get a screen shot? I was gonna post my task mgr. and couldn't figure it out.
