Multiple ways, there's using 'gimp' or 'xv' if you have those 2 programs installed, or possibly import, although I've had bad quality with it generally.

Hey!!! Thank you for the kind vote of confidence, but this linux stuff is flat out kicking my butt. Just today, I was trying to back up the /etc on a new install...
tarred it for fun, .tar.gz , still no prob...
Then, tried to burn a cd iso9660 img. Kaplowee!!
not even xroast or whatever front end would work.
So, back to the drawing board..... gotta learn about these
    mkisofs to do the cdrecord.

I'm NOT GIVING UP! If I succeed in one "hobby" the rest of my life, I want it to be this GNU/Linux thing...

    Hi Vlad! Now THERE'S the GURU! JAI :p :p :p ;) :) :) :p

    Yessir!
    Thank you, Vlad!

    g1lgam3sh:
Here's the detailed version of using The Gimp to take a screen shot ( I had to try it myself just now, LOL...)

So, open up the gimp program, then on the main (big) window:

    go: file>aquire>screenshot...
    and so on
    (even more options await).
if anybody comes up with a way to do this from the command line (like a real man would)... post so we'll all know!

    I hear ya, DanTekGeek.
I promised myself that if I ever was able to get a computer, that I was not going to sit back and worry about "messing it up", so that I would have to rely on someone else to fix it.

So... I just keep on keeping on... As long as you don't shock something, who cares? Push comes to shove...
Reinstall again, LOL...., that's what I say :p

Hey -- a buddy of mine who is a real computer guy (works with them -- about 60 hrs/week AND runs a web server)...

He gave me a box last night - said "put this 2000 Server on it and BSD, too." So... I gotta show this guy that I'm not a complete dumb@$$ LOL. I gotta come thru...

Well there's 'import' (If I am remembing it correctly, last time I used it was a year ago because...) but again, it's quality was really blurry, not sure if there's an option for it to be better, but truely, in a screenshot, I have enough stuff to show off that I don't have space for a terminal, no mattter how small, to do it ;)

crazy -- you're right! (of course)
    LOL.
import - capture some or all of an X server screen and save the image to a file.

One day I can totally get rid of the mouse -- to show off to my friends --

    You know, like this:

"Hey you guys, look - no mouse!" :p

I thought Windows was a time bandit, here comes another, (I can see inside this one though:cool: )

    Linux, I quite like it:)
