I need to make some screen snapshots and wanted to know a decent program for doing such.

Freeware prefered, shareware acceptable, purchase last option.

    any specific kind of snapshots?

In case you are unaware, Windows will take snapshots if your screen if you press the "Prt Scr" (print screen) button loacted above the insert key of a keyboard. Once you do so, the picture (in bitmap format) will be on your clipboard. if you open any photo program (ms paint works too) you can simply paste the file into the program and save it as a picture.

other programs that do more advanced things (succession of screenshots to for a video) are Mr.Captor, and Fraps 2.0, but those both cost money and are mainly for video.

Do a Google for ScreenHunter. I have used version 1.1 for a long time and it's a terrific little program. If used in conjunction with a multi clipboard like Yankee Clipper III it works beautifully. Very easy to use and very reliable. I keep it's shorcut in my quickstart menu.

To amplify on this, the PrtScr button will capture the whole screen. If you use Alt+PrtScr then it will only capture the active window.
