screensaver question WinXPPro - instant on

I wonder if anyone here knows how to make a command that makes a computer go into screensaver mode instantly. - I am using a Dell Inspiron 8100 and am running windows XP pro.

Rather than going to standby or hibernate, I would like my computer to go into screensaver mode when I have to walk away from my desk sometimes. I typically have my screensaver set to activate after 20 minutes of inactivity, but would also like to be able to activate the screensaver on command occaisionally.

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this with XP?

 

I assume you have your screen saver set to Require Password on Resume-- which is essentially the same as logging off. To log off manually: Start -> Log Off. Or there are utilities such as Hot Corners.

 

Yes, that's corect.

The problem with logging off is - it closes all programs, I don't want to do that.

The hot corners software will work, I know that some of the macs we have here come with this option built in. I thought maybe there was a way to do this that was built int the os??

Worse case, I guess I'll spend the 10 bucks.

 

You could always create another user account, and just Switch Users but not logon to the other and your progs would continue to run-- a little more kludgy, but free.

I don't know why I didn't realize that earlier, I already have multiple accounts so I can switch users without closing any programs.
