    First get your screenshot;
If you don't have a program that captures the screen press shift + printscreen
This places a copy of the screen on the clipboard.
Open your graphics program of choice eg start>programs>accessories>paint
Paste the shot into the graphics program
Save the file, where you can find it again, as a jpeg.
If you are using say Paintshop pro you can resize or crop the image to make it smaller
With Paint you are more limited, you must select the pat you need and discard the rest.
Having got the jpeg below 97K proceed to a Major Geeks thread
Type in a title and some text (important to add some text first.)
    Click the 'Go Advanced' button
On the toolbar click the paperclip
In the dropdown box which opens click browse and navigate to your jpeg
    Click upload
    ckeck you image with preview

You can upload up to three pics per post this way.

    Hope they are worth seeing;);)

What about the other method, which is posting a link to an image hosted on an image server, such as photobucket.com? Below is an example; the image is linked to my photobucket account:

    http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/farmpond/laptop.jpg

Does MG have a preference as to which way forum members post a screenshot or other image?

Nope any method mentioned is ok, either attach is small enough to meet the upload size criteria, or use a online host, I tend to use an online host as this way it does not add to the size of the database and use up forum HD server space, plus they generally allow larger size images.

I would say try to either use 800x600 if attaching or use the thumbnail clickable on a image host, this helps users still on dialup as many large images attached to a thread will take them ages to load.

The OP wanted to know about her startup programs and what she could disable ....it was suggested that she use a startup manager ....and tell us what is running. She was first told to attach a screen shot ....then a startup manager to know what is loading.
And now we await her reply. :)

Alt-PrintScreen to take a picture of current Active Windows; then paste into MS Excel, it works beautifally there; there is less hassle resizing and moving windows around as well as adding lines of text. Hope this helps more.

Eh, I think most folks are going to be better served by using Paint, as explained at Taking Screenshots. I see no advantage whatsoever in trying to use Excel as an image editor; I know you can insert images into Excel files but using it as an image editor for images to be used for purposes other than Excel is not what Excel is designed for.
