I had to reformat and reinstall XP Pro today and found I have two 150GB 10,000RPM SCSI HD's on my gaming rig. My question is do I need to do anything to setup these HD's to work optimaly or will XP PRO detect them and set them up automatically. Is there a driver pack I need or a setup preference in my BIOS? I had to load defaults in my BIOS just for the computer to let me run the windows boot form CD repair capability. Thanks.

Oh also windows recognizes the two seperate HD's but before it just showed as one massive 300GB drive. Now its two seperate 150's any ideas how I can make them work together for better performance?

I am suprised you managed to install Windows.

You normally have to supply a driver for SCSI using the F6 prompt during SETUP.

Post the text of your boot.ini file.

I suggest you make an emergency boot floppy or pendrive for the system.

format the floppy/drive and copy the following files to it

    NTLDR
    NTdetect.com
    Boot.ini
    NYBOOTDD.SYS

If you were supplied with a SCSI driver copy this and rename it to ntbootdd.sys

Since you reset the bios to defaults you have lost the RAID settings which combined the drives to appear as one large one.
You can't reverse this without reinstalling Windows again. You would also have to set up the RAID in BIOS first.

Does the handbook say you have an 'Active Bios' ?

hmm well im doing the auto update thru the windows website. Crap though. I will get the boot.ini file once the updates are done and post it here (umm how do I get that file to post here?). As for making the boot disk where do i get those files from to put on the disk? I have a floppy disk that came with my mobo and it says it has "serial ATA (150/300) RAID DRIVERS FOR EVGA NFORCE 680i MOBO Models..." is this what I should have installed and setup before installing windows? And when I do reinstall do I setup the raid drivers and scsi settings first then run the XP disk to formatt and reinstall? Id like to wrap this up today if possible so I dont mind reinstalling everything.

    Windows XP search function?

I am sorry I missspelt one filename - it should be NTBOOTDD.SYS

However this file is only applicable to SCSI drives

Are you sure your drives are SCSI, not SATA?

It is also possible that your drives were originally set up as what are known as Dynamic Drives. This is available in XPpro not home.

This would allow the two 150 GBs to be seen as one.

type the following into the run box

    diskmgmt.msc
    >click OK
right click one of the disks.

Are you offered the option 'convert to dynamic' or is it greyed out?

Can you post a screenshot of the disk management window?
