Tried to upgrade from Windows XP Professional SP2 to Windows Vista but when it ran the compability test it told me that the SCSI/RAID Host Controller wouldn't work after the upgrade, and I've got no floppy to install it in DOS.
First off I have no idea what a host controller is, think It's something on the harddrive which is an Seagate Barracuda 320gb. So I have no idea what to do to upgrade to Vista. Help would be appreciated! confused

Thought about downloading the controller drivers for Windows Vista instead or would that mess up the computer?

Did the upgrade advisor give more detail than just they wont work, a name of the controller maybe?

Do you have a virtual drive app installed like MagicISO or Daemon Tools, uninstall those as they will cause this error, on an upgrade to Vista. Then get updated Vista compatible versions once Vista is installed.

And if its the SATA/Raid drivers then get Vista compatible ones from your motherboard maker and you can put them on CD or USB to install in Vista as Vista now for installing these drivers has those media options to use opposed to XP and just using floppy.

Ok... can someone here list some known programs that will cause problems when upgrading to Vista?

I tried upgrading after uninstalling Daemon Tools but now I get a BSOD when It's about to get to log-in screen and shows this:
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xB80100C6, 0x00000000, 0x81835663, 0x00000002)

A few of my programs are: Zone Alarm (free edition), AntiVir, Ad-Aware Personal Edition, EVEREST, Paragon Partition Manager and alot more and also some games.

Anyone knows the cause to this BSOD?
Heard that some people got past the BSOD by using an old graphic card thru the installation/upgrade but got none extra available PCI-E card.

Quick system spec: Dual Core 2 Duo E6300 OC to 2,2 ghz, 1gb ram, Geforce 8800GTS, 320gb HDD space, Windows XP Pro SP2

Too many at present to list all, but from your list, Zone Alarm definatly and possibly Paragon Partition manager are not compatible.

The ones that will crash the OS will be the ones that startup with your PC, which are all of the security ones, so bets to remove them, then check for update that are compatible once the OS is installed.

Did you run the Upgrade Advisor, while it may not show all incompatible apps it will highlight quite a few.

Do you think I could simply disable every possible software in msconfig and install vista then see remove them or do it later?

    What are in your startups?

Never tried that option of disabling in MSconfig then installing Vista as I do clean installs and not updates, they have less issues, but you will still have to remove some applications as they are not Vista compatible, what you could do is to go through your startups and check every app for Vista compatibility, those with updates, update those without remove.

But DO remove ZoneAlarm as its not compatible at all yet ( and could be the cause of that STOP error ), they are testing a version but its not ready yet, update AntiVir and if its the free version get this http://www.majorgeeks.com/AntiVir_Personal_Edition_7_d955.html if not already as that is OK with Vista

Also turn back your overclock to default until you have installed Vista correctly and if your using any software that runs at boot to OC then remove that too.

I've got Zone Alarm, AntiVir, Logitech G-series Keyboard profiler, Realtek audio stuff, JMRaid, Nvidia drivers and nTune service, yup that's pretty much it.
