I have spyware doctor and PC Cillin protection, and neither of these applications sees this file as a problem. I do, however, know it is not a good file, because it prevents my Red Alert game from functioning. How do I get rid of it? There may be other applications that are causing problems, but a quick google search of each has brought up nothing alarming. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Scott

If you have that, you could have more problems. You need to follow our standard cleaning process. Do not skip any steps.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

I ran through the program that you have setup, and it fixed the problem that I was having. Since then, I have gotten another virus and it is not as forgiving as the previous one. Now, I have the PS Guard one, and it will not go away. I tried going through your program a few times, getting cut short, because it would change my screen saver settings and loose the scan midway. Finally, I stayed on top of it, and ran it (all the steps). The problem seemed to be gone, even spybot detected it. But, it was soon starting up again on it's own. It has it's own delete file, and it removes it for a while, until it pops up from some trigger after a couple of days. Attached is my hijackthis.log. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Your first problem is still present. And now you do have PSGuard. Look for PSGuard in Add/Remove programs and uninstall it if found. Also do the below.

Did you want all your search pages set to about:blank like this?
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
    • Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
    • Reboot into safe mode.
    • Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach this log to your next reply.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {13310B12-B99B-A1B8-BEDD-38C4532E885B} - D:\WINDOWS\System32\h70iCR5S.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P.S.Guard] D:\Program Files\P.S.Guard\PSGuard.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows Update] scvvhost.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
    O18 - Filter: text/plain - (no CLSID) - (no file)
    O21 - SSODL: DCOM Server - {2C1CD3D7-86AC-4068-93BC-A02304BB8C34} - D:\WINDOWS\System32\dcom_9.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    D:\Program Files\P.S.Guard <--- the whole folder
    D:\WINDOWS\System32\h70iCR5S.dll
D:\WINDOWS\System32\scvvhost.exe <--- DO NOT DELETE svchost.exe. It is valid. Just delete scvvhost.exe if found.
    D:\WINDOWS\System32\dcom_9.dll

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

I think I have made some progress, but I will have to wait and see. When I first went to safe mode, it kept trying to start internet explorer in the background, then I would get the "send report" pop-up, then it would reset safemode. After getting to the HJT fixes, it quit trying to start IE in safe mode. Everything else went without a hitch. Although, getting ready to run HJT in normal mode, I went to taskmanager to shut down any known processess, there was one that was there that was just a bunch of letters and numbers (ie. mp34jl3.exe). That is not the letters and numbers exactly, but when I went to end it, it said that I could not end it, because it wasn't a recognized process, and it was gone. I will have to keep an eye out for that one in the future.

Thank you, so much, for your help. I can't believe how fast the hackers are creating havoc for everyone. It seems the good guys can't even keep up in real time. You guys are a true heroes for us all! I'll let you know if anything else pops up.
