So I had an SD card in my phone for the longest time and it has over a thousand pictures and 30-40 videos of me and my fiance at concerts and on vacation and such. I am now trying to transfer them to my computer and it freezes my computer if I try to transfer any of them to it or even if I attempt to watch any of the videos. It also freezes my phone now and I have to remove it to get the phone to work again. It would make sense that it was a corrupt file if only one thing did it but every single video does this and it instantly freezes my phone. Please help me I do not want to lose all of my pictures and videos.

Can you confirm the card doesn't lock up your computer as soon as it's connected and you are able to see the files and browse them?

If this is true first open my computer right click the drive and select copy then paste the whole drive to your hard drive, make sure you have enough drive space if the drive is large.

If this completes then try to browse the files on your hard drive.

If not run a data recovery program and recover everything from the disk, choose somewhere on your hard drive you will find easily on the main options page.

Both of these processes are none intrusive, the next is and my permanently damage the drive or stop files working. right click the drive when it's connected, drive tools, error checking and click check now allow it to fix the errors then start at the beginning again, try viewing the files, then copy the whole lot, then use data recovery software.

If the files are of extreme importance you may wish to skip that last step and go straight to a data recovery company but be prepared for a large bill.

Stick around for other suggestions I've done very little data recovery from sd disks they usually just stop working and cannot be recovered or repaired so I'm sure others can suggest steps I've missed.
