SDRAM won't fit in an SDRAM slot?!?!?!

Okay, this one has me beat. After trying to put a RAM stick that I was pretty sure was SDRAM into a supposed SDRAM slot, I realised that I had some server SDRAM flitting around that I could use to confirm the stick was SDRAM and standard dimensions. I've also since remembered where my standard sticks of SDRAM were and confirmed that dimensions match in all the sticks of RAM.

Problem is this; supposedly the slot I'm trying to put the RAM into is an SDRAM slot but the clips are too low and so they don't grip the RAM in the notches when the RAM is far enough in. Instead, the clips get in the way of the RAM sitting down far enough into the slot and make it prone to wobble around in the slot - hardly what you want for your RAM.

The slot clearly indicates where pins 1, 84, 85 and 168 are and the notching in the slot matches the notching in the RAM; the only issue is where the clip notches on the sides of the RAM are.

The board in question is an old one - takes EDO as well. It's a Jetway J656VXD motherboard and according to what info I've found, takes EDO and SDRAM.

So my question is this: does anyone know whether Jetway made the clips for the RAM slots too short or is there something about SDRAM and slots I don't know or have forgotten?

I sort of had the same problem. I had mistakenly tried to install mine backwards as I thought the labels always faced the same way. :-o The locks wouldn't engage either. I'm not saying that's what you did, just that it happens. Here I thought I knew my hardware.:-o:-D
