Seagate 1TB problem

I have an older system I am converting to a data storage server. It has an Asus P5GD2 Deluxe motherboard. Windows XP is installed on a seperate disk as I want these drives for storage only. I am attempting to install 3 Seagate 1 TB drives on the onboard Sil3114R raid controller for use in a raid 5 array.

    Retail box ST310005N1AS-RK drives.
    7200.12 Firmware CC36

Bios for the controller is set to RAID. On boot the system hangs when the the bios gets to the point where the Sil3114R bios is detecting the drives. It lists the first drive and just stops. I have tried various combinations of 1 drive, all 3 drives, different ports out of the 4 available, etc...

I have also tried connecting the same drive to the onboard ITE 8212 controller and boot is fine and the drive is seen properly in Windows.

This doesn't seem to be related to the recent Seagate firmware issue I have been reading about. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Fixed, I think

Followed instruction on the link in my last post. Was afraid i didn't understand it enough but tried anyway. Replace the bios module that seemed to have the device ID that matched (3114). I guess I got lucky but everything seems to be working great.

I could even setup the RAID 5 in the bios interface which the old version said you could not do. Have the array up in Windows, setup as a volume and formatted. So far no issues.

Dissapointed the motherboard vendor couldn't issue an updated bios that was that simple.

    Hi

I have the same problem with my Asus P5AD2-E Premium motherboard.

Can you give me a link to the Sil3114R bios?

How exactly do I do this in MMTool? Clicking the "replace" tab and replace the PCI Option ROM were it says 3114 (and a bunch of other numbers) with the new bios and save it?

    I just can't find the Sil3114R bios..

Oh never mind, I just downloaded the bios that seemed to be for my motherboard, it was a 50% chance for it to be working, I guess I got lucky.

    Thanks!

I am using the ASUS P5AD2-E Premium motherboard and encountered the large disk failure problem. I modified the ASUS BIOS 1006-006 Beta with the latest SI 3114 BIOS version 5.4.0.3 using MMTOOL and reflashed. This resolved my problem. I am now using a SI RAID 0 with two 1TB disks and everything is working fine. I will upload the modified BIOS if anyone is interested.
