This is my first post so please bear with me. Previously I partioned my periperal 600 GB Seagate HDD and all was well. Later it stated it wasn't accesible and was corrupted and I haven't been able to access it. The main partion"M" that I am trying to access I notice does not have the word NTFS in the title like the other 2 partitions in the HDD do.
My question is, do you think I can add an NTFS file to it or since it is not accesible my only option is to format it and forget about it; of course this would be my last resort as I would like to recover the files on it if possible?
Do you think you can help?

    Many thanks.

I had a very similar situation to yours. I ended up using a free program called Partition Find & Mount to access and recover the data. This program will not actually fix the drive, but should allow you to access the data so you can copy it to a safe location before reformatting the drive/partition. You can read about my experiences with this program in this thread. However, I was able to eventually fix this problem using a free program called Boot-IT Next Generation. You can read that experience here. If you need help with using Boot-IT, just ask. The main thing with Boot-IT is to NOT install it to the hard drive when you first boot to it. The download will create either a boot floppy or boot CD image file. After you create the appropriate boot media for your situation, you boot to the CD (or floppy). The program will ask "do you want to install to the hard drive?" and you must answer "NO". This will then enter 'Maintenance Mode' and will give you all sorts of repair options.
Good luck! I hope this helps!

Hi. I tried it on another computer and still the same thing. I cannot access it.

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I did download Partition Find & Mount but it will not mount the data. Next I downloaded Boot-IT Next Generation but I am not sure where to go from here. I clicked on a few things but it tells me I cannot access the mouse and won't let me access the "M" menu in the "R" drive?

If the mouse doesn't work, it is likely a USB mouse and 'legacy USB support' might be turned off in the system BIOS. So, enther BIOS and locate the USB settings and make sure everything is enabled correctly. Then boot into BootIT and enter Maintenance Mode by no installing it to the hard drive. At the top, you should have a 'Tools' setting or something similar (I don't have a BootIT handy right now or the time to create/boot to it). The idea is to find the BootIT settings and enable USB support so it will correctly recognize and allow access to the external drive. Once this is done, close that window (I think clicking OK will close it). Click on the 'Partition Work' button and you should be presented with a window that lists your hard drives, including the USB drive. Select the USB drive and select "Undelete" over on the right. I giving you this info from memory, which is like old swiss cheese: it's full of holes and it stinks! LOL I think I'm pretty close though. You can get more info from the BootIT support page: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/support-bootit-next-generation.htm I should be able to get the time for some accurate info in the next 2-3 days, so if you don't get it sorted using the BootIT support page and/or using my admittedly weak info, I'll be better prepared... good luck!
