Seagate Seatools problem.

When I try and run the program I get a popup box saying " This device may not support pass through. ". If I click OK I get the same box again and upon clicking OK again I get a box that says something about enabling JIT ( just-in-time ) to debugg it but I have no clue what that is and either to quit or continue. If I let the program continue it does nothing.

My HDD is a Seagate ST316081 1AS SATA ( Another thing that annoys me but Seagate says is fine.. ( Windows says this HDD is a SCSI HDD and not a SATA... Oh well )

This is exactly the same error I get.

My main drive is a Seagate ST3500630AS. I get the pass through error twice (probably due to the HDD having 2 partitions) but my other drive a WD Advanced IDE works fine with it.

I can't seem to see any trouble shooting info online.

The SCSI seems to be a normal thing since my brothers SATA's both appear as SCSI drives in the remove devices safely list.

I'm off to read about JIT and how to turn it off. I'll report back if I sort it out :major

Download the enterprise version of SeaTools:

    Enterprise Version

Then try running it, mine failed on a short test but the error message seemed like there was something wrong with the test not the drive so I'm running a long test now.

I'm also having the same problem. I can't find many resources out there. I have Vista installed and I'm running the long test as I type with enterprise. My hardrive seems to faill and cause Vista to freeze. During installs or other intesive operations, the drive stops sounding and the mouse freezes about 2 or so minutes later. Received the infamous blue screen of death a few times....not fun. I got a Seagate 500gb SATA 7200/16mb 3G

I passed the long test...still wondering what the problem could be.

that's an odd one. If you got the blue screen it may be worth just sending it back or possibly e-mail them and ask if they know of any bugs, etc.

Sounds like you're running the same HDD as mine, What version of Vista are you running? I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, it's never frozen on me though, it just makes an awful racket when it's reading from the disc, I gave up on trying to fix the noise and I'm using an older advanced ide drive as my OS drive now so it's not constantly reading from the Seagate one.

Mine failed the short test for some reason I think it said something about No something data available so I ran the long test and it passed ok...

I'm on Ultimate 32 as well. I'm going to call up Seagate to see if I can find anything about it. I had the same exact results with the tests.

Let us know what they say.

It could be a hardware issue with the blue screen error you got, but quite equally it could be a HDD issue, one of my old Maxtors just died for no reason a few years back and all I could get was the blue screen, since then I've stayed away from them but to be fair I had 2x80GB Maxtor Diamonds and only the 1 failed the other still works fine it's my backup now incase my WD one in my new machine dies.

I called Seagate. It was difficult to understand the "technical service represetnative" through their accent. After telling them that I passed the "long test," my hardrive is in good working condition. She advised me to run the DOS version of seatools as well.

Seagate claims the issue to be software (Vista). They recommend that I reinstall the opperating system. To be on the safe side, format the harddistk. Don't know if they realize it's easier said than done ;). I dont' feel like trying to get my serial numbers to all my software to transfer over again.

Needless to say, I'm still looking for another option with this problem before formating.
