search-about.net problem

Firstly, allow me to say that I'm not a computer know-it-all so please respond as simply as possible.

I have some sort of problem, and I don't know if it's spyware but I suspect it is. My homepage is automatically reset to res://dxexe.dll/index.html#96676 each time I open up IE. Whenever I change it it just resets. Also, If I don't type a www. in front of an address (like if I just type google.com) it comes up with a search page called "Windows Help Center." at res://dxexe.dll/url_error.html#(address)

Theres a folder in WINDOWS called srchasst (search assistant) and I believe it is part of the problem. However, I can't remove it because it's always being used by another program.

I've looked in Add/Remove programs and seen several things that I need to get rid of, one of them being "Home Search Assistent" (spelled wrong in the list), another being "Search Extender."

I tried running CWS Shredder and it didn't help. Please help me fix the problem ASAP!
