I'm running XP Home/SP2, and the search feature in Windows Explorer shows me a blue 'window' (empty except for the yellow dog), but when I click on the dog, expecting to see some options, all he does is scratch then wag his tail and blink his eyes.

I would really like to change the search area to the traditional search window as in 98 &/or ME if that is possible.

    Thanks,
    Philo

    Hi!
There must be something wrong. You should see THIS: (except I have a Cat)

Yes, something is wrong. I don't see any of the text on my machine. So how do I fix it? Is there a "master setting" that controls the way searches are done and/or the method used?

Forget the bl**dy dog :D Try this as an alternative.

    1. Open a Search Window
    2. Select a search location, say C drive, and any other other search options you desire. Leave the All or part of the File name blank, for now
    3. Click Search Now to perform a search. The results are not important, though. Stop the Search at any time.
    4. When the Search is complete, select Save Search from the File Menu.
    5. When prompted, navigate to the Desktop and type in whatever name you like for the Filename, Something generic such as search.fnd, might be suitable. It must end in .fnd, though
    6. This will create a shortcut on your desktop.

    Bazza

PS: You should be able to create a custom search for each drive on your system, but will need a unique name like dsearch.fnd for D Drive, etc.

Thank you very much, Toni. I got my search text back by using the
"regsvr32 jscript.dll [Enter] or Click OK" info you gave me.

Thanks to all the others who replied as well. I appreciate the help. :)

Thanks, TimW, for AgentRamsack link.
It is fast, and another alternative search way. :)
I have installed it and added it to My Essential Downloads folder. :D
I still use the method I outlined earlier, as well, as I am used to it, for now. Bazza
