Search Companion

After installing service pack 3 I lost the search companion feature...I spent 3 hours with Microsoft they could not help...I don't want to do a restore just to get search companion back...Can anyone help:confused me?

There is a hotfix for this on Microsoft's homepage. Have you tried that? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q319949

I tried and the patch is only if you do not have any service packs installed. I have service pack 2 and 3 installed...Thank you for posting help

Did you go from SP1 to SP3? You never had SP2?

 

yes I have 1, 2 and 3

 

OK. Thy to run Microsoft Update again. If a part of the update is missing it might find it. The free Microsoft online scanner "Windows Live OneCare safety scanner" will also repair damaged or missing files. Try that one if the ordinary updater can't help. This relatively new online scanner is quite useful. Slow but useful. Go for a full scan and OK all it's suggestions.

PS: reboot afterwards to make all changes take effect and hope for the best...

live one step kept freezing...couldn't get that ****** to install.

 

In that case you should perhaps run Dial-a-fix and try Windows Live OneCare again. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html

1. Double click the blue gear wheel
2. Click "Flush Software Distribution"
3. Check "Fix Windows Update"
4. Click "GO" - bottom left corner
5. Let it run
6. Reboot
7. Go for OneCare again

 

I need to uninstall service pack 3 it will not uninstall in ad and remove programs I get a error:Bosnian(Cyrillis,Bosnia andherzegovina) is selected as the standard language for standards and formats or for non unicode programs. This language is not supported prior to wiindows XP service pack 3 . Please see readmessp,htm to select a different language...
I havve no idea what this means service pack 3 ruined all of my restore points and I need to uninstasll it...How????please help
