I know this is the wrong place to ask this ,,I was not sure where to post this one ..My Question is this... I have a new web store up and running and wanted to ask if I used a web listing service would I be wasting my money ?
I don't have a lot to spend to get out on the web and and can they really get you listed near the top 5 or 10 pages ?? with a limited buget ?

Is it worth it ? I listed with DMOZ.com already ..
    Thanks Ron

I also should ask if it matters that I don't have a domain name ..I'm going thru earthlinks servers so my url is rather long and weird with a tille in it .

    Thanks Ron

    Getting a Free Domain Name

To get a free shorter domain name go to www.dot.tk and register for a free domain name. When you register here you will get a free domain name with .tk at the end instead of like .com. The reason this site is free is because it isn't an actual domain name. It is just a redirector to your other domain name (the earthlink one). I use this because my original domain name is www.geocities.com/neonemesis90/main.html but with dot-tk my URL is www.alien-head.tk. This is useful because it makes it a lot easier to remember and when you give people your domain name its easier.

be forewarned that search engine submissions usually deny listing for redirection urls..

I know but I was just trying to give a way to get rid of that annoying long URL. Also, unless your willing to spend a lot of money I wouldn't do search engine submissions, I would stick with Banner Ads because if you want your URL not to be the last one in the bunch when someone searches you have to pay more money. And not a lot of people use those little search engines. Most of the time people head to google.com or yahoo.com so try listing there if you still want to list.

    Re:

    Thanks for the info !!

I was thinking of changing and getting web page writing software so as to move my site and get domained .. Because I'm useing theres I don't have the option to change provider with out losing all the work ,,,,I did copy every thing in pages and notepad html ..But have no idea how to use them in another site ..besides I would probably have to change the look to keep
    safe ...
Earthlinks trellix web writer is easy to use .I understand it, and nervous about trying others ,,and all the hours put in !! buttt .... Road runner has a special now and I'm about to lose my 29.00 mo. deal with earthlink ....
    Q Any suggestions ??

Q On a low budget ,,is it better to do banner ads, or try getting on a search engine ? From what i see the big ones will cost 1 to 2 hundred bucks yr.
Q What is a good way to get banners out on a buget ? I have one running a a site directed to my market but,, its only 4000 member forum and that one is costing 17.00 month for now ,later it will cost 25.00 month .

Thanks again for the help!!! ,, New at this web site thaang !

I think my first suggestion would be to pick up a book on understanding the concepts of website building including how webservers work. Nothing can be more empowering than to be able to speak to other people (web geeks like myself) on the same level or having some level of understanding enough to hold the conversation. Especially when it comes to support questions or perhaps hiring a 3rd party to do web work and not getting hosed in the process.

    Go here:http://www.searchengineguide.com/
I'm using this site and it's resources for work -- it's legit and the newsletters give advice about your very questions. Talk about the good/the bad...what works and what doesn't work, etc.

    Hope it helps.

Like Kodo said - this site talks about website building too, metatags for searches and all that techie stuff.

    Re:

Ron, check out http://tinyurl.com You can put any length URL into tinyurl.com and it will give you a 5 character, maximum, mixed alpha and numeric address. You simply type in the new address, as above, followed by up to 5 letters and it automatically redirects you to the uRL you are after.

    2 examples

    http://tinyurl.com/63ajq takes you to

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 which is Major Geeks software forum

    and

    http://tinyurl.com/6 takes you to

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?ovi=1&mqma

    p.x=300&mqmap.y=75&mapdata=%252bKZmeiIh6N%252bI

    gpXRP3bylMaN0O4z8OOUkZWYe7NRH6ldDN96YFTIUmSH3Q6

    OzE5XVqcuc5zb%252fY5wy1MZwTnT2pu%252bNMjOjsHjvN

    lygTRMzqazPStrN%252f1YzA0oWEWLwkHdhVHeG9sG6cMrf

    XNJKHY6fML4o6Nb0SeQm75ET9jAjKelrmqBCNta%252bsKC

    9n8jslz%252fo188N4g3BvAJYuzx8J8r%252f1fPFWkPYg%

    252bT9Su5KoQ9YpNSj%252bmo0h0aEK%252bofj3f6vCP

Obviously http://tinyurl.com/6 got in early with a single digit redirection code. They are now up to 5 characters, mixed alpha numeric, lower case, that gives over 60,000,000 possible combinations. (36 x 36 x 36 x 36 x36= 60,466,176), slightly less than that as I suppose they delete the rude word combinations.

That long address above runs to over 300 characters and would be a b*stard to type in.

Hope this helps (and posts in full). Bazza
