Searching for NTFS cluster size configuration program

I'm looking for an application that can convert the cluster size on an NTFS volume WITHOUT destroying the data. I know there is the long process of creating an image of the drive or other sort of backup and them reformatting with the desired cluster size. But I am looking to avoid all that hassle. I need an application that can convert the cluster size from 4k to 512 bytes. I know most performance buffs would say the other way around is preferable, but I am looking for capacity increase mostly. Motives aside is there anyone that might have something, or know of something capable of this? Any assistance would be much appreciated. I've been looking all over for something of this nature for a long time and am frustrated!

From what I've read, Partition Magic can do this; I'm not one to try it out myself first though!

Convert.exe in Win2K when converting from fat32 to ntfs sets ntfs to 512 byte clusters; would be curious to see what happens when it runs on an already ntfs partition.

 

Ah! it seems partition magic v8 does do the job. Thank you Adrynalyne. Though I was hoping for something a bit less robust, perhaps stand alone... Thanks again!

Oh, and also Convert.exe will not allow resizing of cluster sizes on an existing NTFS partition.

 

Do you have a majority of files that are less than 512 bytes?
If the answer is no, I think you will probably suffer a lot of defragged file issues, and have to defrag often for best access results. MS would have spent a hell of a lot of time and $$$ re-searching optimum cluster sizes before making a decision. Bazza
