I downloaded Seatools (for Windows) some time ago and recently decided to have a look at the programme.

On clicking the icon, I saw the following message.

Fatal Error 'Length must be greater or equal to zero........'

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks

PS. OS is Vista 32 bit

Search the error on the internet: you will find a number of 'hits' which appear to relevant. One which offers some kind of solution is found here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...fd?msgId=81e5959b-ac27-4b49-9bc3-d8a48bbfc3e2
You need to read through to the end, something about Seatools not supporting RAID etc. (putative solution stolen from mathieuschulte , January 9, 2014)

I have used this on Win XP the only problem I have is that the license agreement widow is empty, and I am expected to agree to carry on !

Seatools requires that at least one Seagate hard drive is installed. Do you have one that Seatools can detect?

    Thanks for responding.

The first thing I tried was a search and found the article that you referenced.

I did not want to make the changes.

    Best wishes.

    Thank you for replying.

I have a Western Digital WDC SATA disk.

It looks like this is the reason why Seagate Tools does not work on my system.

I am likely to uninstall the suite.

    Best wishes.

Looking at the downloads. I see Western Digital Data Lifeguard.... But this appears to to be appropriate for an an EIDE drive. I have a SATA drive. I doubt if this would work.

Western Digital DLG Diagnostics.... Does not mention the type of drive, but it might work.

Do you think that a Western Digital tool is likely to be a better option on my machine than using chkdsk /r.

Is Checkdisk 1.4 mentioned in the downloads the same programme as chkdsk supplied with Vista?

    Thanks.

Seatools can be installed regardless of what brand HD you have.
For Non Seatools Brand HDDs, you can perform Short Drive Self Test, Short Generic Test and Long Generic Test.
Repair options are only valid for Seagate and Maxtor drives.

Is chkdsk always finding bad sectors?

    Thanks for responding.

My hard disk is not reporting any errors, I am simply trying to collect a good set of tools in case I need them in the future.

I noticed on just trying to start Seatools that I got the message: 'Fatal Error 'Length must be greater or equal to zero........'

    I cannot start the programme!

    Best wishes.
