second wifi router

Hi All,

I have just been given a second wireless router. Is there any way I can use this to extend the wifi coverage of my existing wifi LAN? ie the current single router wifi signal doesn't reach the back of the house.

So for example, is there a way that the second router could be a repeater?... it would be physically possible to hard wire them together under the house.

Current rig is:

"a" computer -> cable internet;
"a" -> wi-fi NIC to LAN wi-fi router;
other computers share internet through "a" via router-> "a" -> internet (some hard wired into the router some wifi.)

Very few Wireless Cable/DSL Routers can work as repeater (WDS).

So if you already got one check the specs. to see if it can work using WDS Mode.

Otherwise, the best Method to Extend Wireless Coverage depends heavily on the Specific Envioroment.

In general, the best Method involves using multiple units connected with wire to the source.

Or WDS, ( http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Modes.html ) system using Hardware of one Brand across the board.

Wired connected Access Point is the best solution since WDS cuts the "Speed" into half past the second unit.
