Security settings/walkthrough for new computer?

Hi,

First off sorry if this isn't the right forum or if there is a sticky thread already made for this; I looked(quickly) but didn't really see anything that matched up.

I just got a new laptop w/Windows 7, upgrading from a desktop w/Windows XP, and was hoping to ask if anyone knew of a walkthrough for changing any settings that needed to be changed in a new computer.

I remember several years ago for this desktop there were either guides or maybe a computer program(Spyware Blaster?) that showed what settings to change or automatically changed them, usually having to do with Java and DirectX for the most part if I remember correctly. It's been so long now though I just don't remember exactly what I did.

I'm in the process of installing Avast, ZoneAlarm, Firefox w/NoScript(although I might/probably will use IE as well so if any settings on it need to be changed I'd appreciate knowing), Spyware Blaster, AdAware, Spybot S&D and SUPERAntiSpyware so the only thing left I can think of is if I need to manually change any settings. Been down the road of a complete re-install before and would like to set up some barricades to try and keep it from happening again!
