    Hello-

I've been using Avast Internet Security suite for 3-4 yrs. now and would like to move on to a program that

is perhaps a bit lighter on the system, and a bit better in detection.

I looked at Bitdefender, however I have read that it doesn't play well with Opera browser, which I use

exclusively, and do not want to change. The other product I am looking at is the Kaspersky Internet

    Security suite.

Could I get some opinions and recommendations, please?... Thank you, in advance, for any opinions and/or

    suggestions.

    Regards-

On the latest tests by AV Comparatives http://www.av-comparatives.org/ - one of the most trusted independent testers - their top choice for system performance (ie its slow down effect on the computer), real time detection and false positives is AVIRA http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/avira_free_antivirus.html
Personally, I use Comodo Internet Security Free http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/comodo_internet_security.html but you can just install the Antivirus part alone. It works well on all my systems which are Win 10 64 bit with 8-16gb of ram.

Thanks, Max, for the response...we'll research that. Actually, we're looking at the 'paid for' suites, that are firewall inclusive. We are running Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64 w/32gb memory.

Then you will want to look at the Comodo Internet Security Suite - Anti-Virus, Firewall, HiPs, Cloud scanning. It's Firewall is consistently reviewed as the top rated Firewall available:

You don't need to pay a cent for either AV or FW, alone or together, and the actual protection in the Free and Premium versions are exactly the same. The features in Premium over Free are only about non-protection features.
    You can compare features here:

Comodo provides decent products, Max. I have had some issues in the past with their Comodo Dragon browser and their Uninstall app.

I appreciate your time and input on this thread, however at this juncture, I think I am going to give the Kaspersky Total Security 2016

    a try for a year.

Truly, I really liked Avast up until they released the 2016 variant. Too drastic of a User Interface change, and it's a nightmare unsubscribing from the

auto pay at the end of the subscription- a ploy to keep one subscribed, no doubt. And then the issue with their arrogant support.

My research has found that all of the reputable AV and software review sources rank BitDefender and Kaspersky as the top two suites.

Neither of those two apps you mention are anything to do with security of course so not relevant, and are not a part of CIS itself unless you choose to accept them as optional extras.
CIS Firewall is the top rated FW bar none.
The point below is not entirely accurate. AV Comparatives rates Avira and BitDefender as the two highest rated apps overall on all the separate tests, and none of the below reviews are based on independent testing.
But the bottom line is that many programs are fully acceptable for the non-user behaviour protection they give, and what program features best suits an individual user is most often the deciding choice and that's not an unreasonable one. But it isn't about technical protection as such.

Yes, I get all of that. However, AV Comparatives is but only one source, too... kind of like, what's it going to be, Chevy or Ford, in a sense...

Then we get to the features of detection and removal. Some detect above others, yet their removal of infections isn't complete.

    It's all subjective.

Here, as well as link #1, Comodo ranks well.

    Another good rating for Comodo-

Personally, I've never had an issue with the firewall component within Avast, nor Zone Alarm back in the XP days.

I've made my choice, and our choice has been validated thoroughly over at 'sevenforums.com', as well.

    Thanks for the input!
