Seeking help with identifying possible problems

Hi guys,
I have to begin by saying Major Geeks is a great site and everyone who contributes has been very helpful. Thanks to all.
Here's my question. I run Hijackthis and the log spits out a whole bunch of listed items. The list below was from three minutes ago. There are some suspicious looking items in Logfile of HijackThis such as R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - C:\Program Files\TV Media\TvmBho.dll
I'm just wondering whether or not there is a universal "rule of thumb" one can apply to identifying the bastards out there. I hate having to run to the message board with pleas of help when I can do most of the heavy liftnig myself.
Naturally, I'm a bit fearful of just deleting on a guess. Looking forward to your responses.
