Self righous people suck

I hate self richous holier than thou people who, no matter what you do, if something goes wrong, even if they are totally at fault, the will twist it around and yell at you about it. one of my best friends has latley gone over the edge with this. no matter what i do, she constantly berrates me for everything. i cant ****ing stand it anymore. i refuse to let her treat me like this. its totall bullshit...

PMS? If so, catch her in between rounds. If not, find a better friend. That one doesn't sound like much of one.

 

If i were you I would take a break from that friend for a week, two, or three and then if she continues I would talk to her about it. Don't make a point about it and don't sink to her level.

 

yeah, i have decided to stop talking to her. and its not pms, she has been like this all summer.

 

It also could be she is going through some very emotional personal problems, and she feels safe taking it out on you. If you respect your friendship, try to talk to her....(think first, men say all the wrong things sometimes). If that don't work, then tell her that when she is ready for the friendship, you will be there, but for now you need distance.

 

yeah, thats exactly it. its easy to take stuff out on me. or it used to be. im not going to try and talk to her about it, its not worth it, ive tried to do it before, she is to irrationall.

 

Dan, try never to burn your bridges. Always remain friends with past girlfriends because they might have some hottie friends you'd like to meet.

 

shes not even an ex girlfriend. i have known her my entire life, she used to be my best friend. our familys are great friends so ill still have to come in contact with her. the hope is this will all blow over.

Sometimes even friends need time apart. Maybe in a month, 6 months, maybe more you will connect again. I had a best friend that I fell out with for some reason,(her reason) and didn't speak for about 6 months. One day she called and asked if I could give her a ride to work. I said, I guess. Not much said. On way home she asked if I could stop at a music store for a minute. She went in and when she came out, kind of threw an album at me "here, I know you like this" LOL, seems stupid but that was the closest to an apology I have ever had from her. BTW, I was 18, it was a long time ago, we are still friends.
The other thing you may have to face is that she has a different group of friends and you aren't a part of it. Sucks but there it is.

Exactly. We don't blame their getting mad for irrational reasons on whether or not they're "getting any".

 

Gotta go with the girls here -- very good advice, and lostkiwi's too. Especially since you say your families will continue to be together. Honesty and talking (yeah, we know -- guys say, "run away") would be the way to go.

I would start off with, "I feel like things have changed between us and I don't feel the same respect from you that there used to be. It's difficult for me to maintain a friendship with you when I sense ....(hostility, meanness, disrespect...)"

Notice, you haven't actually said SHE is doing anything yet, you've only said you sense, feel certain things. Go ahead and tell her YOU need to back off on time together -- boundaries are very necessary -- but that doesn't have to mean, "I'm never going to speak to you because I dislike you so much". It's hard to get past telling someone that or having them feel like you said that to them.

Well, Dr. Feel Good -- guess you have to go with your gut instict then. Just allow yourself to cool down so you don't say something you'll regret in the future. That's all -- true for all people we have contact with really.

 

This blaming bad judgements and poor decisions on some supposed like to the male or female psyche doesn't fly with me.

A little less emotional irrationality and a little more loyalty and support and actual sentient thought wouldn't go astray on BOTH sides, in my experience.


Too many people use friendships as a licence to use the other party as an emotional punching bag, just because they're having a bad day, going through a tough patch in life, or the other person has done/said something wrong (real or perceived).


Start taking responsibility for your own words and actions (I'm speaking generally now) and stop passing the buck - wether the other party has acted like an Ass or not. If the situation is redeemable, then apologies are in order from BOTH sides, and you move on ("fault doesn't come into it). If not then it's no longer worth any further investment of time and energy. Cut yer losses and scram to somewhere where you're more appreciated, I.M.O.

If you don't want someone treating you like that (and who would) why would you treat someone in that rude, inconsiderate manner.

We live in a world where it's too easy to not take responsibility for actions and words and too easily turn things around and make it look like it's someone else's fault or problem.
