Send a fax using cable modem

Does anyone know if it's possible to send a fax while connected to a cable modem. If so, what software would I use. Thanks.

 

You can't send a fax via cable, DSL, or T1 because a fax needs to be sent via standard telephone lines. To send a fax you will need to install a dialup fax modem.

That wouldn't REALLY be sending a fax on cable: it would be sending a non-fax by cable to a server that relays it to the recipient as an e-mail message attachment. Unless the server puts it onto a phone line (and off the cable completely) it wouldn't be a FAX at any stage of the game.

So if you're going to do all that, why not just send an e-mail message?
