Ok, heres an interesting problem that might expand the life of my XP installations if i work it out.

After a certain ammount of time, my XP Home machine in my house decides that it isnt going to let me send emails or send messages to messageboards or anything. I try clearing cache, re-installing IE, deleting downloaded activX objects, scanning for spyware, uninstallnig recently installed programs... the lot. Nothing seems to work. So I end up doing a repair install of XP to get it working again.

Not the ideal solutuion! Ive searched MSKB but there doesnt seem to be any specific bug which might be causing this. Ive also checked router settings and everything, seems to be fine as it works on my other PC fine.

anyone seen this before? What should I be looking for?

Ill be back in about 4 days ill be eager to see what you guys come up with for me! ;)

you can try resetting the tcp/ip stack. Update your network card driver. Do ou have any third party firewalls running? You may also want to try safe mode with networking, see if the problm is present in safe mode. That would at least help rule out third party apps.

Good shots, Fw! But the target is pretty foggy, as I see (?) it.

Goldie, you're not helping a lot with "After a certain ammount of time, my XP Home machine in my house decides that it isnt going to let me send emails or send messages to messageboards or anything." My guess is that we need to know exactly what it DOES, SAYS, how it BEHAVES. Specifics, man, specifics.

And in what programs? Sending an e-mail message with a MAIL PROGRAM (using an SMTP callup) is a very different thing from hitting POST on a message board page in your BROWSER, you know. So what, exactly, is da problum, ma man?

well, it sounds to me as if he just can't upload things, hence the network driver and safe mode with network support suggestions. The problem is a bit odd though.

also, you might want to try another browser and see if the problem goes away, could be somethin borking IE.
